What do grooming services look like at Kate’s K9 Care?

Updated: Nov 27, 2024

  • Kate’s approach puts the dog first.

  • All cost implications are discussed beforehand to ensure no surprises and the fairest pricing possible for the dog’s parent.  A plan is always discussed beforehand, and the dog owner’s budget is fully respected as well as the dog’s well-being.

  • If your dog had a prior negative grooming experience and is now fearful, we take things very slowly and proceed at the dog’s pace while explaining and showing the dog what steps will occur and what tools will be used.

  • Kate provides positive reinforcement such as snacks, love and a lot of praise to the dog throughout the grooming process.

  • Most importantly, Kate will let the dog have breaks during the grooming process which is based on how Kate assesses the dog’s tolerance and her careful attentiveness to the dog’s communication about comfort level.

  • On very rare instances, if a dog is very anxious, she may recommend finishing the groom on another day as a second visit.  We recognize the inconvenience of this situation; hence it is always part of the pre-groom discussion as Kate gets to know about your dog’s groom history.

  • When a dog shows a good tolerance for the grooming experience, Kate proceeds in the same fashion, however, the full groom will be completed a lot faster.

In the long term, if your dog continues to be groomed at Kate’s K9 Care, the grooming time will get shortened since Kate’s objective to respect your dog while being groomed with earn your dog’s trust and we can expect the fee to be lowered in the long term.
