What kind of negative reinforcement is used?We utilise verbal discipline, separate the dog using crates or a leash to create a safety zone.
-
Should I bring my own dog’s food?Yes, this is highly recommended. Since switching foods with little no transition is not recommended especially for anxious fur babies or sensitive bellies would be an unnecessary change. However, in case of emergency situations we always have food & supplies on hand. We will try our best to restock the same food you use upon request.
-
Are crates used while my dog is being cared for? Are they provided? We only utilise the crate for a handful of reasons centered around safety & training. Examples of when we use crates: · During mealtime · To maintain crate training at night · To separate a troublemaker from being a safety risk to others · For a time out if a dog cannot self-regulate or is disrespecting other dogs’ boundaries, creating safety risks. We normally provide the crate, however we welcome our clients to bring their own crates, if desired.

Will Kate’s K9 Care offer grooming to dogs with a bite history?Yes! We always pay careful attention to the dogs’ communication cues. Dogs give warning signs that will be respected before they feel the need to bite. We believe most dogs who have bitten previous groomers have been in the hands of people who prioritize their schedule over the dog. In some circumstances, we may recommend talking with your veterinarian to provide a sedative as needed for your dog to ensure the safest grooms. This is based on Kate’s assessment that she cannot proceed with normal restraints.

How long does a groom normally take?Normally it depends on the dog’s size & how comfortable the dog is with the grooming process & what needs to be done. Kate’s K9 Care approach will prioritize the dog’s experience with the objective to create a positive experience with as little anxiety as possible. Kate takes breaks as the dog request/needs to keep the dog’s stress level as low possible. The shortest amount of time could be 2-3 hours. Larger dogs or dogs with high anxiety, could be up to 4-6 hours.
